Looking For 4 Wheel Parts, Utah Is The Place To Be

4 wheel parts utahThere are plenty of avid off-roaders in our local area. When it comes to 4 wheel parts, Utah residents are often on the lookout for the best products and installation services. They’re looking for a place that essentially has everything – from roll bars to suspension kits.

You don’t have to look any further than Red Desert Off Road. If we don’t have it, we can order it, and we’ll install it as well.

However, you don’t need to come in and get your parts officially installed before you can see the finished product – our interactive garage lets you customize your vehicle with a variety of gear right from your computer. Take a look!

A Little About What We Have To Offer

Suspension, Lift, & Shock

When it comes to 4 wheel parts, Utah residents need to have a good selection of suspension, lift, and shock gear so they can handle the rocky terrain of some of our most extreme off-road trails

We offer the gear you need so that your 4 wheeler can clear those rocks and shrubs, hug the ground and keep you stable, and take on the impact of the bumps and curves that will inevitably come your way on your next off-road adventure.

Armor, Skid, Bumper, Roll Bar

Over the years, our customers have come to expect the toughest equipment for protection on the toughest trails – and that’s exactly what we provide.

Whether you’re an avid off-roader or you’re just starting out, you’re no doubt aware that your typical stock vehicle lacks the equipment needed for even a mild off-road trail – at least not for very long.

To keep you and your 4 wheeler safe, you need the armor, skid, bumper, and roll bar products that will provide not only protection, but also that tough, rugged look you love.

Gear & Axle

With some of the most state-of-the-art equipment available on the market, we highly recommend Yukon gear and axle products; their manufacturing techniques make them one of the world’s top leaders in the industry.

Wheels & Tires

4 wheel parts utahWe offer a variety of wheels and tires for all levels of off-roading – mild, moderate, or extreme.

All Season Tires

If you’re looking for long-lasting tires for your typical commute or a very mild off-road trail, all season tires are the way to go; they don’t have the brute-force ruggedness for moderate or intense off-roading, but they’ll go the distance – literally.

All Terrain Tires

Due to the fact that these are some of the most popular tires for off-roading, there’s also a massive selection of them to choose from. With large grooves and material that’s built to last, these can handle your typical commutes as well as mild to moderate off-road trails.

Extreme Mud Terrain/Rock Crawling Tires

If you’re ready for some of the more intense off-road trails, these tires are essential. With aggressive tread that extends to the sidewalls for maximum grip, they were made for little more than moving you over the toughest rails in Utah – 4 wheel parts inventories wouldn’t be complete without them.

5 Of The Best Off-Road Trucks in Utah

Today on the blog, we are checking out some of the best trucks for off-roading according to experts and veteran off-roaders alike. We’re looking at the best off-road trucks to drive in Utah and beyond. With specs and pricing information, we hope this guide can aid you in the search for an off-road vehicle that will take your adventures to the next level.

Already have an off-road ride that’s not featured on this list? Or want to add some personalized features to your truck? Contact Red Desert Off-Road to see what mods can get your truck, Jeep or SUV trail ready. In the meantime, let’s take a look at this list of the tried and true best off-road trucks in Utah.

Ram 1500 Rebel

The Ram 1500 Rebel has been making “best off-road truck” lists in 2016, 17, 18, and 19, which in our eyes shows some serious staying power. In addition to the Ram Rebel featuring extreme off-road capabilities both in the looks and performance department, and equipment like front tow hooks, skid plates, and an electronically locking rear differential, this article from Edmunds.com goes on to say that, the entire model range of the 2019 Ram 1500 (Limited, Rebel, Laramie, etc.) received 2019’s Edmunds Editor’s Choice Award for Best Truck. So even if you don’t own a Rebel, any Ram 1500 with some off-roading mods will do.

Starting price comes in right around, $44,695 with additional mechanical upgrades available such as a Hemi V8 instead of the standard 3.6-liter V8, four-wheel drive, and air suspensions. Techies can also upgrade to the 8.4-inch touch screen Uconnect Infotainment system that is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additional specs as outlined by Edmunds include:

  • Combined MPG: 17
  • Horsepower: 395 hp @ 5,600 rpm
  • Torque: 410 lb-ft @ 3,950 rpm

Nissan Titan Pro-4X

What this truck lacks in towing capabilities, it makes up for in off-roading performance. Nissan offers both the Titan and Titan XD with the Pro-4X packages, but Popular Mechanics argues that the shorter sibling the Titan (by 14. 7 inches) is better equipped for off-roading. This best off-road truck in Utah comes standard with a radiator skid plate, off-road dampers, all-terrain tires, and an electronic locking rear differential as well as hill-decent control and off-road performance shock. Starting at $44,880, this spacious and comfortable ride also features the following:

  • Engine: 5.6-liter V8
  • Horsepower: 390 @ 5800 RPM
  • Torque: 394 @ 4000 RPM
  • Max Towing Capacity: 10,990 lbs

Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro

If you’re looking for a truck that you can drive right off the lot and right onto the trails, this is the truck for you. As one of the most off-road capable vehicles in the world, we couldn’t leave this off our list of best off-road trucks to drive in Utah. Especially considering one of the available features is a Desert Air intake that raises the intake up out of the dust, making this truck perfect for the dry desert trails of Southern Utah, Nevada, and Northern Arizona. This could also be used for water as well. Other components that make this truck featured in our Utah best off-road trucks list include four-wheel drive, internal bypass shocks, Kevlar-reinforced all-terrain tires, global skid plates and more than 9 inches of ground clearance. Starting at $43,905 This compact contender gives other full-size trucks a run for their money. Other features to know:

  • Engine: 3.5-liter V6
  • Combined mpg: 22
  • Horsepower: 278 hp @ 6,000 rpm
  • Torque: 265 lb-ft @ 3,500 rpm

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss

As its name suggests, the Chevy Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss, is a “boss” on off-road trails. For the newly redesigned model for 2019, there are two off-road trim levels, Edmunds explains the Custom Trail Boss and the LT Trail Boss, with the former being a pretty basic model. The LT Trail Boss, on the other hand, offers additional features such as a 5.3-liter V8 and an 8-inch center touchscreen for clear and concise navigation when you’re out in the middle of nowhere. Additionally, the LT Trail Boss has the same equipment of the Custom which includes skid plates, hill descent control, and a heavy-duty locking rear differential. The Trail Boss as is could be taken on easy to mild off-trail roads. However, additional features may need to be added on for personalization or if you plan on taking your Trail Boss on more extreme terrain. For additional off-road trucks that only the best off-road trucks in Utah can get, call Red Desert Off-Road today.  Additional specs include:

  • Combined mpg: 17
  • Horsepower: 355 hp @ 5,600 rpm
  • Torque: 383 lb-ft @ 4,100 rpm

Ford F-150 Raptor

Starting at $52,855, the Ford F-150 Raptor rounds out our list of trucks that mean business out on the trails. Boasting a faster, stronger and smoother ride than any other F-150, the Raptor’s off-road capabilities make it an excellent choice for taking on any type of trail( additional upgrades may be required) at high speeds. One of the best features about the 2019 Raptor is the new Jump Mode as told by Popular Mechanics, “When a 2019 Raptor goes airborne, it detects that the wheels are off the ground and automatically cranks up the compression damping, helping the truck to avoid bottoming out when it comes back to earth”. Standard features include a reinforced frame, off-road tires, bespoke body panels that make this truck wider than a basic F-150 and Fox shocks.  Other specs, as offered by Edmunds include:

  • Engine: 3.5-liter V6 turbo
  • Combined mpg: 16
  • Horsepower: 450 hp @ 5,000 rpm
  • Torque: 510 lb-ft @ 3,500 rpm

Off-Roading This Summer? Here’s What You Need To Know

Summer is officially upon us and it’s time to dust off our off-road accessories and vehicles and hit the trails! Whether it’s your first or 87th off-road adventure, these tips will help you stay safe and enjoy your truck, SUV, or Jeep. This article provides tips for handling summer terrains like sand and mud, and essential St. George off-road parts for your adventures.

Before You Leave

Black Jeep In Front Of Red Desert Off-Road Shop - off-road truck accessories st. georgeHaving a solid plan is essential before you leave for your off-roading trip. Understanding the terrain, weather, and your off-road vehicle’s capabilities is just the beginning of successful off-roading adventures. Some things you’ll want to “check off” before you head out include:

  • Research the trail or trail area that you plan on exploring. Online trail sites usually will provide difficulty rating and what to expect on the trail. Additionally, past trailblazers will often leave comments and photos of the trail and when the best time to explore it is. Knowing what your up against before you get there is vital to your safety.
  • Get a multipoint inspection before you go. A multi-point inspection by a dealer or mechanic checks key areas of your vehicle to determine if a tune-up is needed. Most mechanics will check the basics like tires, shocks and struts, belts and hoses and fluids. Expect to spend around $100 or more, depending on your vehicle’s make and model, and your geographic location.
  • Let someone know where you’re going and when they should expect you back. One of the rules of trails is never going somewhere without telling another person where you’re going. Even with today’s technology, there’s no reason to chance getting lost in the middle of nowhere. Additionally, don’t travel alone.

Recovery Gear

Eventually, everyone gets stuck on the trails, so it’s crucial to have the right St. George off-road accessories and parts. Apart from lift kits, off-road tires and lighting some indispensable off-road accessories for recovery situations include:

  • Jump Starter and Power Bank – If your off-road ride dies out on the trail and needs a jump, you want to have a backup plan. Truck Gear’s Jump Starter and Power Bank powers your jacked-up vehicle and provides power for your GPS and cellphone.
  • Tire Repair Kit – On many trails, jagged rocks reign supreme and even the best off-road tires have been known to get punctured. Keep a tire repair kit in your vehicle at all times along with a spare tire just in case.
  • Traction Ramp – If you happen to get stuck on the trail and no vehicles are around to save you, a traction ramp is a priceless off-road in accessory to have on hand.
  • Winch – Another indispensable recovery gear accessory for off-roading in St. George is the winch. A winch can be mounted to either the front or rear bumpers and is used to pull a vehicle out of a “sticky” situation by tying a cable or chain to a tree or rock. Furthermore, a winch can be used to pull out another off-roader if they get stuck.

How To Handle Various Off-Road Terrain

st. george off road partsHow you drive your off-road vehicle and what kind of vehicle you have will play a role in how well your vehicle handles the trail. You’ll need basic knowledge for handling desert gravel roads, boulders, sand, mud, and even driving through water. Here are some basic off-roading tips to ensure your safety on trails, beaches, or anywhere you venture with your off-road vehicle.

  • Trails with packed dirt and gravel – General tips for driving on these types of trails include, keeping your thumbs outside of the steering wheel and making minor steering corrections. Essentially, pay attention to the trail and don’t overcorrect.
  • Beach Trails or Sand Dunes – Before driving on a beach, ensure legality. Signs or permits may be necessary. Lower tire pressure to around 15 psi. Maintain momentum in sand at speeds under 25 mph. Research tides; high tides complicate beach driving. If tires sink, maneuver steering wheel for traction cautiously.
  • Muddy Trails – Driving through muddy areas and in water is similar to driving on the sand. Make sure to drive at a constant, slower speed and if you get stuck gently steer from left to right. For a trail known to be muddy, ensure you have mud tires or all-terrain tires as essential off-road accessories.

For more information on essential off-road accessories in St. George contact Red Desert Off-Road today. We will help make sure you have the right gear and accessories to keep you safe out on the trails.

Give the gift of cleanliness this year by purchasing some top quality floor mats to keep the inside of his Jeep or truck looking like new. We suggest choosing Mopar floor liners if Dad has a Jeep and Lund for truck owners. You can find both of these floor liners and more at Red Desert Off-Road.

LED light bars or fog lights are a great place to start, but if you’re unsure of which off-road lighting solution would be the best you can check out our Interactive Garage or call us and we can help guide you in the right direction.

How To Choose The Best Navigation System for Off-Roading

For many off-roaders, driving into the unknown and cruising on roads less traveled to view beautiful vistas and admire never-ending horizons is what makes this sport so enticing. The magnetizing pull of “The Great Unknown” has driven people to explore and has kept them exploring throughout the entire world. For centuries, all great pioneers and pathfinders have used a navigation system to keep them on course and moving forward as well as, help them find there way back home. And while our ancestors successfully navigated their expeditions using the stars as their guide, our navigating systems have gotten a bit of an upgrade.

GPS or Global Positioning Systems were first launched by  U.S. Department of Defense in 1973 for use by the United States military and became fully operational in 1995, Since then, GPS has replaced most physical maps and many people use the GPS on their smartphone, tablet, or a dash-mounted GPS for directions during their daily commute, road trips, and for off-roading purposes.

Most navigating systems (even the one on your smartphone) are suitable and designed for daily driving in and around populated areas, however, if you plan on taking your rig to where network coverage is spotty at best, you’ll want to make sure you have the best off-road GPS that’s designed for this type of terrain from a St. George off-road accessory store.

This article discusses what to look for in an off-road GPS along with, the best off-road GPS, their features, and cost to help you choose which is the most suitable for you in order to help you enjoy your adventure without getting really lost.

What To Look For In An Off-Road Navigation System

When purchasing an off-road GPS from a St. George accessory store there are a couple of things you’ll want to consider or look for in a GPS device. These include:

  • Points of Interest – Most navigating systems will show you landmarks and points of interests such as historical sites, buildings, and other interesting landmarks. In the desert, up in the mountains or deep in the forests these landmarks don’t exist. For off-roading, you’ll want a GPS that shows you relevant points of interest or landmarks, such as campsites, fuel stations, and even viewing spots to help you get the best photo for the ‘Gram.
  • Topographic Mapping – Should you decide to go exploring on the trails, you’ll want  GPS that notifies you about approaching cliffs, dead ends, rocky terrain, closed roads and other topographical features that you’ll want to know about before you get there.
  • Offline Mode– Ideally you should have a specified off-roading GPS purchased from a St. George accessory store that is able to work offline when you don’t have any network coverage. Choosing a GPS that doesn’t offer this feature works about as well as a cellphone would under water. Luckily there are some affordable off-road GPS that will work for most everyone’s budget.

Getting Your Truck Ready for Spring

Winter is nearing its end (hopefully), which means that it’s time to perform some general maintenance duties to your off-road truck. During the winter months, our rides can take a beating, from freezing temperatures to bad roads, chances are your truck could use a tune up. Additionally, for many truck owners, the end of winter signals the return of the work season and if you haven’t’ done so yet, you may need to outfit your rig with some truck accessories in St. George to further protect and maintain your truck. The following guide can be used as a checklist to make sure that you’ve done all the basics required to get your truck ready for the next season, alongside some truck accessories you may want to consider getting to both improve the look and performance of your truck.

Get Your Truck Ready for Spring: Under The Hood

st. george off road accessoriesBefore diving into the washing and waxing portion of getting your truck ready for the warmer months, you’ll want to make sure that all systems are running smoothly, this includes, but is not limited to:

  • Checking the oil. Even if your a change-the-oil-every-three-months type of person, one of the most important things you can do during this time of year is to check this vital lubricant. If it’s running low, top it off. If you’re in desperate need of an oil change either go to your local shop or do it yourself to save a few bucks.
  • Check your wiper fluid. For many of us, especially off-roaders, we need to make sure we have enough wiper fluid to get rid of dirt, debris, mud, etc, that seems to pile up the most during the spring and summer months, so make sure you have enough wiper fluid. You can also just put water in the reservoir, but general blue wiper fluid works better to keep your windshield clean.
  • Change the air filter. Protect your engine by changing out the air filter to prevent dust and other debris from getting into the combustion chambers of the cylinders. Similarly, changing your air filter reduces gas waste. You can find out more information about how to change your truck’s filters, here.
  • Go to a professional. If your truck’s been acting “funny” you may want to take it to a professional to see if there are any other issues going on As the old adage goes, “better safe, than sorry”.

Outside Maintenance

On the outside of your truck there will most certainly be items you need to check and/or change. A common St. George truck accessory that needs to be changed as the seasons do, are tires. Most truck drivers have opted for winter tires, so around this time is generally when you want to switch back to your spring or summer tires. If you need new tires, stop by our off-road accessory store in St. George to see the different tires we keep in stock. In addition to changing your tires this season, you’ll want to:

  • Check tire pressure and balance. If you don’t need to change out your tires, it’s important at this time to check the pressure and get them balanced if needed. Also be sure to check for wear and tear, such as cracks or threads showing; it’s never fun to have a tire blowout while on a job or out on the trails.
  • Replace wiper blades. Wiper blades are one of those St. George truck accessories that are usually forgotten about until it becomes a problem. Wiper blades get worn out during the winter months due to ice and snow and are a necessary piece of equipment during spring when you can never be sure what the weather may do.

Truck Accessories in St. George to Consider

st. george off road accessoriesOnce you’ve made sure that your truck is running properly and all the truck accessories you currently have are in tip-top shape, you may want to consider adding the following truck accessories if you don’t already have them or even think about upgrading if you do. These include:

  • Off-Road Lighting – High quality lighting for your truck is a non-negotiable. Not only does it keep you safe, it keeps other people on the road safe by being able to clearly see you. If your lights aren’t up to par, it’s time to upgrade them.
  • Tonneau Cover – In addition to having a durable bed liner, another smart truck accessory to have is a tonneau cover, especially in the spring when you don’t know if it wants to rain, hail or snow on any given day.

Spring Cleaning Your Truck

Whether you’re having your truck professionally detailed or doing it yourself, you’ll want to start with outside cleaning and maintenance. Getting your truck professionally detailed will cost around $100 or if you plan on cleaning your truck yourself, follow these instructions, as provided by this article from Reader’s Digest, to have your truck looking like new after the long winter:

  • Start from the bottom. To get your truck ready for warmer months start by hosing off the salt from the trucks underside. You can either do this at home with a garden hose or go to a brushless car wash that includes “undercarriage wash”.
  • Wash and wax your truck. Use a liquid or powder cleaner for the body and for tar and harder stains on the finish, use a strong formula that’s designed to remove stubborn spots without destroying the finish. Don’t use abrasives like steel wool
  • Clean your tires. Once you’ve either changed out your tires and/or had them checked for pressure and balanced, you’ll want to give the a good scrub down. Use a tire and wheel cleaner to the surface. Once finished, apply the cleaner to wheels, allowing the solution to set for a few moments and then use a clean paintbrush to remove any dirt and debris that may be stuck. Then rinse and dry with a microfiber towel.
  • Clean the cab. One reason it’s important to wash your truck first is so you can spray the door jams out and let them dry before you move onto cleaning the interior of your truck. Truck accessories in St. George, like floor mats and seats need to be shop vacuumed in order to remove excess dirt. Make sure to remove floor mats to get any dirt that is underneath. Additionally, you’ll want to use a foaming fabric and upholstery cleaner for cloth seats, spot-lifter or stain-remover products for carpeting, and to finish up, use Armour All for any sensitive surfaces.

How To Choose the Right St. George Tonneau Cover for Your Truck

When it comes to your truck or car, you want to make sure that you are taking the best possible care of it. Not only is your vehicle a great investment for your day to day life, it is also an expensive one. One way to ensure the safety of your vehicle in St. George is to invest in a tonneau cover. Tonneau covers come in different sizes, materials, and even colours. This can help a lot when it comes to trying to find the right Utah tonneau cover for your truck. The downside is that it can also make things more complicated if you are not sure what it is exactly that you are going to try to look for. Some things that can help you narrow the list down are:

  • How often you use your truck bed
  • Weather conditions where you live
  • Cost
  • How much security that it will need to provide

St. George Tonneau CoverIf you find yourself needing to use your truck bed a lot, getting a tonneau cover in St. George is a good idea. Having a tonneau cover is great for preventing mud and water from getting into your bed and ruining everything you are carrying around. It also helps to prevent theft, with some models of tonneau covers having things like locks while some even have the ability to be controlled by a remote. If you also use your truck bed to carry items that stick out over the edges of your truck bed, many models are easily retractable or removable so you can still carry larger loads if needed. When it comes time to choose your new tonneau cover in Utah, it is also important to factor in common weather conditions, such as snow and rain. While a soft cover may provide protection from the sun and more high wind conditions, heavy amounts of rain and snow may cause it to sag and weigh against what you are trying to carry in your truck bed. A hard cover panel cover tonneau may be best when it comes to looking around for your tonneau cover in St. George. Another thing to look at when you want to purchase your new tonneau cover is the cost of it. If you have more of a tight budget, or if you do not mind if you have to spend a larger amount for your cover, there is an option for everyone.

Types of St. George Tonneau Covers

Soft tonneau covers and roll-up covers are among the cheapest in price and still provide safety to items you want to transport, and safety from sun damage and rain. Hard panel tonneau covers and tonneau covers that come with special features such as locks tend to cost more on average, but provide more security and can be coloured to match your car and give a more sleek look. When you start to look at purchasing a tonneau cover for your truck in St. George, you will also want to think of how much security you are going to require. If you are looking for a tonneau cover that simply protects your truck bed from debris and wind, a tonneau cover with additional protection and security might not be the biggest priority for you. Although, if you carry things like expensive tools and other items you would not want to get stolen, a tonneau cover with a lock mechanism may be worth the additional cost in the long run. With all these things in mind, let’s look at the different type of tonneau covers Utah has to offer. Some of these Tonneau covers include:

  • Folding Covers – Made of either soft or hard material panels that have separate sections for easy folding. This is great if you still want to be able to use your truck bed to load larger items that will not fit with the cover on.
  • Roll-Up Covers – The covers are made in either hard or soft material and offer easy accessibility to your truck bed. They are also some of the more cheaper models offered.
  • Retractable Covers – Retractable covers are one of the easier models to use and can provide more security as well. Some retractable tonneau cover models even come with a remote so you can have easier access when you need it.
  • Hinged Covers – Hinged covers typically come in a hard material and can come with options like locks for extra security. This is not the most practical if you need constant easy access to your trunk bed for large items that are not able to fit in with the cover on, but offers a good amount of security for your truck.

Each of these varying types of tonneau covers all have something different that they have to offer. Tonneau covers can come in a soft material or a hard material. Both of these two types of materials that can be used on Tonneau covers in St. George and both have different qualities that can help you to match one that fits your truck bed cover needs.

Hardcover tonneau covers are usually made with materials like metal, fiberglass, plastic, and aluminum. Softcover tonneau covers are typically made with materials such as vinyl or canvas. It is also well worth noting that adding a tonneau cover to your St. George truck can help you to save a lot in the future when it comes to things like how much you spend on gas. The truck of your bed without a cover creates air resistance, which causes your engine to have to put more effort in which burns your gas faster. When you add a tonneau cover to your truck bed you help to stop the air resistance from working your engine more than it needs to be. This helps you to save money on the gas that you do not need to be wasting, and the money will add up. Adding a tonneau cover to your truck also helps to improve the general look and how sleek it is. Many of the hard covers can easily be designed to match the colour of your truck, which in turns gives your truck a nice, cool finished look. Having a tonneau cover can also help to cover up any dents or scratches that you may have on the sides of your truck bed and can help prevent your truck bed from getting further ruined from sun damage and other things.

When it comes to picking out your tonneau cover in Utah, you want to make sure you are getting the most use out of the money you are going to invest in the protection of your truck.
